Applejohn a traditional Applejack

Traditional Applejack is a frozen ‘distilled’ spirit and the only spirit invented in America. This method of production died January 16 1919 with the enactment of prohibition in America. We are the only commercial producers of this beverage on the planet. 

The history: 

When this country was founded, every man, woman, and child drank fermented beverages as fermentation is a purification process and produced a safe to drink beverage as potable water was not readily available. Apples were very prevalent in the Northeastern USA and apples were the main sugar that was used to produce hard cider. As the rumor goes, someone left a barrel out in the harsh winter and the hard cider froze and concentrated. Applejack was born! Applejack became the most consumed beverage in this country and was championed by Johnny Appleseed. Applejack started to take 2 forms before prohibition with the invention of the continuous still, frozen concentrated (Applejohn) and distilled (Holman’s Applejack). On January 16 1919, Applejack was the most consumed beverage in this country. Since prohibition was a temperance movement against alcohol, the apple was enemy number 1! Apple trees were cut down and orchards were raised. We lost 100’s of native wild apple varieties because of prohibition. In the early 1930’s when prohibition was ending, distillers had a choice, go back the old, more labor way of producing Applejack by replanting apple trees, wait 7 years for tree to grow or embrace technology and grow grain, steam distill a product in year one, traditional applejack died January 16 1919. 

When Holman Distillery was founded, John Holman wanted to make different products that no one else made. After reading a story about Applejack and it being the only spirit invented in America, the passion to make this unique, all-natural spirit began. 

Applejohn is an unbalanced, concentrated, real apple pucker. Sour in taste straight, add your favorite sugar to reconstruct the all-natural apple flavor. 

Suggested use: 

Applejack Rose – 2-parts Applejohn, 1-part Grenadine, splash lemon or lime juice. 

            Modifiers: add ginger ale for sparkle, add HH 148 vodka or spiced rum for proof!
